LIGHTS, CAMERA, KNIT ACTION...

See that mermaid tail? Look closely. It's crochet! And its only one of the many interesting items you will find in a new movie about our favorite subject: "Yarn." This new film highlights a diverse group of artists who are redefining the tradition of knit and crochet, bringing yarn out of the house and into the world. Reinventing the relationship with this colorful tradition, YARN weaves together wool graffiti artists, circus performers, and structural designers into a visually-striking look at the women who are making a creative stance while building one of modern art's hottest trends.

The movie opens this Friday and will run at 2:50, 6:30 and 8:20P at the IFC Theatre at 323 Sixth Ave. at West Third St. The theatre has offered to discount tickets if Knitty City puts together a group of at least 10 people to attend. We already have 3 signed up (from the store) and if you'd like to join us, we'd love to have you. Stop by or call the store for more information about joining us.

A Day in the Park

Bryant Park was the scene last Saturday of the 10th Anniversary of World Wide Knitting in Public Day. We were there and we hope you were, as well. Click on the picture to see some examples of the variety of people and the work they brought along. Don't forget: Free Knitting Lessons are now being given every Tuesday in Bryant Park, from 1:30-3:00 PM, weather permitting, until August 30. We will be putting together "Found but Not Lost" scarves to be given out in Bryant Park during the winter. Knitters and knitters-to-be of all levels are welcome to join this community project.

All Bryant Park events are free. We will lend yarn and needles to beginners for the Bryant Park knitting lessons on Tuesdays and all materials will be returned at the end of the lesson.  No registration required, but please be sure to sign-in at the park.

Be sure to check our calendar for a listing of all upcoming classes and event. In addition, don't forget to look for us in all the usual places: FacebookInstagramRavelryTwitterPinterest.  Nothing beats seeing you in person, however, so drop by the store anytime.
